Melissa Cunningham is a native of La Jolla, California who has spent several years living in the Far East. She has always been intrigued by Asian styles and customs, especially the traditional style of Chinese brush painting. Melissa has had the opportunity to study Chinese brush painting with Jean Shen, a local master. She is continuing to study with Jean in order to perfect her brush painting technique and style. Melissa has participated in several shows at Gallery 21 in Spanish Village at Balboa Park. She has also shown her paintings in the San Diego County Fair. She is a member of the Chinese Brush Painting Society.
Melissa loves Chinese brush painting because of its balance, use of negative space and simple but bold strokes.
